Breed History

The Labrador Retriever traces its origins to the Canadian island of Newfoundland in the early 19th century. Originally known as the St. John’s dog, it was bred to retrieve fishing nets and catch fish for fishermen. The breed was later refined in the UK, where it was developed into the friendly, hardworking companion we know today. Labradors quickly gained fame for their hunting and retrieving skills and became one of the most beloved family dogs worldwide.
